The perfect excuse to escape the hustle and bustle of city life now and then: that is exactly what the residents of this house in Kortrijk were hoping for when they reached out to Contour Architecten for the redesign of their urban garden. It is easy to see why the firm won the Vande Moortel Clay Paver Award in the City Gardens category with this stunning design.

Juliette and Stéphane found the perfect setting for their garden in Roncq, northern France: an unspoiled green paradise of about one hectare, defined by hedges, boxwood clouds, and ornamental grasses.

The owners envisioned a classic home with a matching garden, but landscape architect Thomas Leplat had something different in mind.

On the edge of a golf course lies this timeless garden — known to the French as a Jardin à la Flamande, with neat hedges and boxwood spheres where green and white dominate. The landscape architect added an original twist to the design. A true hole in one.
